Former deputy found guilty of careless driving in 2015 fatal wreck

KUSA - A former deputy could spend up to 90 days in jail for his involvement in a wreck that killed a 74-year-old man.

A jury found Timothy Boxley, 47, guilty of careless driving in the November 2015 crash in Greeley. According to troopers, Boxley, a Weld County sheriff's deputy at the time, was on his way to an emergency call in Windsor.

He collided with another car at the intersection of U.S. 85 and CR 66, killing driver Jose Nova.

Boxley was reportedly driving 101 miles per hour at the time of the collision.

The investigation also showed Boxley did not turn on the car’s emergency lights or sirens while driving at the high speeds.

His sentencing will be Jan. 9 at 8:30 a.m.
