Investigators: Recent Green Mountain fires ‘suspicious'

9NEWS at 5 p.m. 12/1/16.

KUSA - Investigators say they’re considering the five fires that have burned on Green Mountain in the past month “suspicious.”

The most recent, which started on Monday evening, torched 96 acres and prompted scores of evacuations, sending a plume of smoke into the air that was visible through much of the west metro area.

The other four fires, all of which occurred in November, were less than an acre in size, according to West Metro fire.

A multi-agency team is gathering evidence about the fires, and trying to figure out who is responsible.

No structures have been damaged in the blazes and no one has been injured. But, firefighters say unusually dry conditions are a cause for concern – especially if the fires continue.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to call West Metro Fire Rescue at 303-987-7111. Callers can remain anonymous.
