Lafayette shops vandalized, one with racial slurs

KUSA - Police in Lafayette say two businesses were vandalized Monday within minutes of each other.

Someone spray painted two racial slurs on the Las Montanas Market on Public Road on Monday night.

A few minutes later, a person threw something through a window two blocks away at Eats & Sweets and ran off.

Surveillance video from inside the store shows the window shattering and a customer moving to get out of the way.

No one was hurt.

Eats & Sweets owner Bobby Pangilinan says he can't imagine why anyone would target his business.

"We have never had any vandalism," Pangilinan said. "We're a big part of the community. We have a good relationship with a lot of people here and a good reputation, so we hope no one doesn't like us but so far no disgruntled employees or anything".

Police believe the two crimes could be related because they happened so close together.

They don't have a detailed description of a suspect, but would like to hear from anyone who got a good look at the vandal.
