DOUGLAS COUNTY - A Douglas County Sheriff's deputy shot an armed man on Friday .
The shooting happened at County Line Rd. and Santa Fe Dr. at 6:45 p.m.
Chief Deputy Steve Johnson says the deputy stopped to assist an SUV when the driver exited the vehicle carrying an assault rifle.
The deputy gave commands to the suspect to drop the gun and, fearing for his life, shot the man.
No deputies were injured, and the suspect was transported to an area hospital where he is undergoing surgery. His condition is unknown at this time.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, no other suspects are at large and there is no risk to the public.
