Longmont alleged assault suspect arrested

LONGMONT - Kurt Jones, 30, was arrested Thursday morning after being found at his mother's house in the 7500 block of Dale Court in Westminster.

Longmont Police and SWAT were in the 2100 block of Meadow Court in Longmont negotiating with Jones for a couple of hours on Wednesday.

According to Longmont Police, they were investigating a serious assault and attempted homicide.

The 48-year-old male victim survived the assault and is currently being treated for his injuries at Longmont United Hospital. According to police, he was strangled.

It is unknown at this time what caused the assault, but police say they think the assault was random and the victim's cellphone was taken during the assault.

During the investigation of the assault, police say they got a call about a disturbance at a home. When police tried to make contact with that person, he was "aggressive" with officers and did not cooperate. When they arrived at the home, police officers noticed a cellphone on the front porch, which they believed to be the assault victim's phone.

Wednesday morning, police gave the victim a photo lineup, but the victim could not identify the person in the house as the suspect from the assault.

Police called off SWAT after they said they did not have probable cause to continue their efforts. Police believe the man inside the home was a person of interest in the assault. The investigation is ongoing.

Jones faces possible charges of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree assault causing serious bodily injury and aggravated robbery.
