Man accused of threatening cyclists with hatchet could be linked to 2 teens' killings

During questioning, the man admitted to having a hatchet and a rifle.

Investigators are looking into whether a man arrested for allegedly threatening people along a Colorado hiking trail could be a suspect in the shooting death of a cyclist near a popular recreation area earlier this month.

31-year-old Daniel Nations is suspected of threatening people with a hatchet along Mount Herman Road in the Palmer Lake community.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says they're investigating if there is any connection between Nations and the shooting death of avid cyclist Tim Watkins, a beloved member of Colorado's cycling community

Watkins was found shot to death near a biking trail in the area on September 17.

The sheriff's office is also working with investigators in Indiana to see if Nations could be a suspect in the February killings of two Indiana girls who vanished while hiking. Their bodies were discovered the following day.

Nations was arrested into the Teller County Jail on Monday on an unrelated weapons charge.
