EL PASO COUNTY - A man is in custody after allegedly stabbing a cab driver and then attacking one of the deputies who came to arrest him.
The incident was first reported at around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday when deputies were sent to the area of Fontaine Boulevard and Weeping Willow Drive after hearing that two men were fighting a cab.
Deputies say the suspect, identified as 52-year-old Radoslaw Szczepanski, stabbed and choked his cab driver, and also hit him in the head with the handle part of a knife. During the struggle, the cab went off the road and hit a street sign, coming to a stop.
The cab driver wasn’t seriously hurt.
Deputies say the Szczepanski ran away, and was later spotted in the 9400 block of Berrey Lane, where he ignored the deputies’ commands to stop.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says Szczepanski later challenged deputies to fight him, and proceeded to attack one of them before another could take him into custody.
Szcepanski faces charges for attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault on a peace officer, robbery, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and theft.
