Man arrested in Idaho Springs murder

GEORGETOWN - A 22-year-old man has been indicted in the murder of a man who was found dead in an Idaho Springs apartment with a single gunshot wound to the head.

The victim, identified as Eric Spencer, was found at around 6:40 p.m. on April 10 at the Aspen Leaf apartments. The suspect, Colton Davison, had been renting the apartment where Spencer was found, according to prosecutors.

Davison was arrested Thursday after an indictment from the Fifth Judicial District Grand Jury came down on Wednesday. He faces charges for second-degree murder as a crime of violence based on the use of a .22 caliber rifle, and tampering with evidence.

Prosecutors say Davison was arrested the night of the shooting but later released. Witnesses say Spencer and Davison knew each other, but it’s unclear how.

If convicted, Davison faces 48 years in prison.

He’s currently being held in custody of the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office on a $250,000 bond.
