DENVER - A 29-year-old Louisiana man who was also wanted in his home state has been formally charged with killing a homeless man in Denver while trying to steal marijuana and other belongings.
Makhail Purpera is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated robbery for the Nov. 5 incident.
Prosecutors say Purpera shot and killed 54-year-old Wayland Busby, who was living in a tent near South Platte River Drive and Dartmouth Avenue.
His body was found by a Denver Park Ranger during a routine check of the area.
Purpera was wanted in Gonzales, Louisiana for two counts of attempted murder for an Aug. 22 shooting.
He is currently in custody at the Denver Detention Center and scheduled to appear in court in January.
