DENVER - A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the death of his 17-month-old son, who prosecutors say had injuries so severe they “can’t be explained by anything other than a high speed car accident or a fall from a multi-story building.”
The District Attorney’s Office had sought a sentence closer to the maximum of 48 years for Romon Enders.
He was indicted for killing his son, Jayden Hernandez, on Oct. 26, 2015 after the boy was found unresponsive in his home on March 21, 2015.
Prosecutors say the boy had catastrophic brain injuries, bruises all over his body and multiple healing rib fractures.
He was convicted of one count of knowing and reckless child abuse causing death in March.
Prosecutors say Enders gave multiple different stories to police about the incident – including that other toddlers injured Jayden by standing on him.
