WELD COUNTY – Police are searching for a man who led deputies on two chases in two days in Weld County.
The first happened on Tuesday night, when deputies attempted to arrest a wanted suspect in Gilcrest. The suspect, identified as Gerald Duane Havens, 31, fled west on country roads then south on Highway 60 to Highway 85. That’s when Havens began driving south in northbound lanes, causing deputies to call off the pursuit.
Deputies later found a van matching the description of Havens' vehicle stuck in a gravel pit south of Weld County Road. Two woman were detained, but Havens had fled the scene.
On Wednesday around 7 a.m., the Weld County Sheriff’s Office responded to Weld County Road 6 at Highway 85 where police say Havens took a silver Chevy HHR by force following a crash at the intersection.
Police say Havens fled north on Highway 85 traveling at about 100 miles an hour. Deputies tried to use stop sticks on the vehicle at Weld County Road 46 and Highway 85 but were unsuccessful.
The pursuit was called off near Lasalle due to heavy traffic in the area. Havens was last seen traveling east from Lasalle.
Police say sightings have been reported in both Evans and Greeley.
Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at 970-356-4015.
