Armed men try to snatch purses near DU

DENVER - The University of Denver told students to stay inside Tuesday night after they say two men tried to grab purses from a group of women near campus.

One of the men is believed to have had a gun, and fired it at the victims' feet, according to a campus alert.

The incident happened near the southeast corner of the intersection of East Asbury Avenue and South York Street. The three victims were law students, and they were walking eastbound on Asbury toward the parking garage when they were approached by the two suspects.

After a struggle for two of the women's purses, the suspects ran away and headed eastbound toward University Boulevard. They weren't able to steal anything.

Denver Police are investigating the incident. They describe the suspects as black men who wearing dark clothing and were approximately 5'8".

DU first tweeted the alert at 9:45 p.m. They declared the incident all-clear around a half hour later.
