New arrest in bike gang murder

WELD COUNTY - A new arrest was made Friday in connection with the death of a Pierce woman who disappeared in October of 2015.

Thomas Vassil, 54, of Nunn is charged with conspiracy to commit 1st degree murder for his involvement in the events that led up to Tara  Lewandowski's death. He is being held at the Weld County Jail.

Chad Iler, Daniel Meyer, Michael Vassil, Scott Hanchett,  Karly Hanchett, and Crystal Griffin were previously arrested in the case.

The sheriff's office say 6 of the suspects are member of the 21 Biker Gang.

The victim, Tara Lewandowski, 34, was reported missing after she failed to show up for a doctor’s appointment. Her body was later found in April nearly 100 miles away in Laramie, Wyoming.

Among those charged is former Pierce town board member Daniel Myer.

Another defendant, Crystal Griffin, told police Hanchett hit Lewandowski in the back of the head while Meyer stabbed her in the chest with a hunting knife.

Griffin told police she believed the murder stemmed from an argument between the victim and Hanchett and after the victim got mad at Meyer for stealing her prescription medications.

Myer will be arraigned in October.

Hanchett's arraignment is in November.
