WHEAT RIDGE - A woman has been arrested for stealing $100,000 in southwestern art from the home of the 84-year-old artist she was supposed to be taking care of.
The victim, Delores Toscano, told police on Aug. 9 that more than 600 pieces of southwestern art had been taken from her Wheat Ridge home. This includes both originals and prints of paintings, charcoal drawings, jewelry and a sculpture.
Investigators say they have identified the suspect as 51-year-old Shawn West, who had been hired as Toscano’s in-home caregiver.
Wheat Ridge detectives set up an undercover art purchase with West, and recovered 17 pictures at the time of the undercover operation and an addition 66 items from her Aurora home.
West is being housed in the Jefferson County Jail.
