GREELEY - Greeley Police are investigating a shooting that happened late Tuesday night near 26th Avenue and 13th Street.

9NEWS Photojournalist Chris Cheline talked to a witness who came down after he heard possibly "30 to 40 rounds go off."

"I believe there were shots fired in and out of the [ground flood] apartment," witness Geoffrey Vaughn said. "The gentleman upstairs actually had [a] bullet go into his apartment, and it scared them pretty bad. The apartment above us got their fish tank blown out, and it's now leaking into all three apartments."

According to police, when they arrived on the scene, they found gunfire evidence -- including two weapons that had been used during the shooting.

Witnesses said they saw a woman involved, so police tried to track her down. They eventually found her at a store in the 2800 block of 10th Street with her two children. Police arrested her and released her children to a family member.

The investigation revealed the woman may have been hallucinating at the time of the incident and prompted her to flee her apartment with her children and fire the weapons at random.

Kelly Renee Barnes, 45, was booked at the Weld County Jail on the following charges: criminal attempt to commit murder extreme indifference, unlawful possession of a schedule II substance, second degree assault on a police officer, child abuse and prohibited use of weapons.
