Shot fired at Aurora police officer

AURORA - Aurora police are looking for a person who fired a shot at one of their officers.

Police say the officer was responding to a report of an assault at E Colfax Ave and N Moline St at midnight Sunday. After a couple of minutes at the scene, he heard a gunshot that he believed was fired in his direction.

The officer did not know where the shot came from, and officers from all over the city were called in to try to find the gunman. A search by officers on the ground and a Denver Police Department helicopter came up empty.

One of the tires on the officer's patrol car was damaged, and detectives will investigate whether that was related to the gunshot.

Aurora Police's Major Crimes/Homicide Unit is investigating the incident. Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call Sgt. Matt Fyles at (303) 739-6041. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP (7867) and can be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
