Son sought for questioning in mom's death arrested

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - The son of a woman found dead in the desert north of Grand Junction is in jail after being arrested on an unrelated warrant.

Thirty-one-year-old Daniel Stetzel was arrested Monday by police in Grand Junction. Investigators have been looking for Stetzel to question him since last week when his mother Kathleen Stetzel disappeared.

The Daily Sentinel reports that the five-time convicted felon was wanted for walking away from a halfway house and drug and alcohol treatment center in June.

He was arrested on that warrant after someone reported a man acting strangely near the Blue Heron boat ramp.

He was sent to the halfway house after pleading guilty to methamphetamine possession and assault. His mother told the judge in that case that her son had schizophrenia.
