Sterling mail carrier accused of stealing 26,000 pieces of mail gets probation

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - A mail carrier in Sterling accused of stealing 26,000 pieces of mail was sentenced to two years probation.

Tayson Adam Hidalgo, 23, took the mail between October 3, 2014 and April 21, 2016.

In October, the government said it recovered 26,000 pieces of undelivered mail, "addressed to residents within the city limits of Sterling, Colorado and several local postal routes in Fort Morgan." At that time, the government said Hidalgo could have been sentenced to five years in jail and fined $250,000.
