Suspect found dead after SWAT standoff in Arapahoe County

ENGLEWOOD - A man who the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office says is wanted for attempted homicide was found dead inside an Arapahoe County home Tuesday afternoon following a SWAT standoff that lasted for hours.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that they conducted an investigation along with the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force in the area of Jordan Road and Otero Avenue shortly before 7:30 a.m.

In addition to being wanted for attempted homicide, the sheriff’s office said the suspect had a previous history with guns, explosives and violent assaults.

He will be formally identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office, which will also release how he died.

The Arapahoe County SWAT team spent hours trying to contact the suspect and get him to come outside, but were unsuccessful.

The SWAT team got into the home at around 2:20 p.m., according to the news release, and found the suspect dead.

The incident did not impact any schools, though bus routes were. Cherry Creek Schools had staff members stationed at various bus stops to ensure elementary school children got to the right place.
