Woman arrested after carjacking spree in Weld County

WELD COUNTY - A woman was arrested Monday evening after what deputies believe was a drug-fueled carjacking spree in Weld County.

Authorities first encountered the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Toni Sandoval, after they responded to a report of a Lincoln Navigator that had crashed into a canal near Weld County Road 23 and WCR 6. That vehicle had been stolen in Brighton.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office says shortly thereafter, a 1967 Chevy C-10 was stolen out of a garage in the 1700 block of WCR 23. Deputies say Sandoval drove the vehicle through the garage door, and made it about a quarter mile before crashing into another ditch.

When a man stopped to help, deputies say Sandoval tried to steal his vehicle. She wasn’t successful, and ran away.

Deputies say she then stole a Dodge Ram 2500 in the 1700 block of WCR 23. Deputies later found the truck in a ditch, but didn’t find Sandoval.

During this search, the sheriff’s office says a woman called police to say another woman had broken into her home in the 11000 block of WCR 4 ½ and tried to steal her vehicle. When she was unsuccessful, she took off running.

Deputies later found Sandoval near a pond in the area. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the three different crashes as well as drugs.

Sandoval faces charges for: two counts of second-degree burglary, theft, three counts of motor vehicle theft, one count of attempted motor vehicle theft, first-degree criminal trespassing, criminal impersonation, two counts of criminal mischief, attempt to influence a public servant and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She is being held in the Weld County Jail.
