Woman attacked by man claiming to be with fire department

DENVER - A Denver woman was attacked by a man knocking at her door and claiming to be a with the fire department.

It happened Friday at 6:45 p.m. at a home in the 8500 block of East Alameda Avenue.

Police said the man told the victim he was with the fire department and that he was investigating a gas leak. As the victim opened the door the man forced his way into the victim's apartment and attacked the woman with either a box cutter or paint scraper.

The victim was able to fight off the attacker after a brief struggle. The man fled the location in an unknown direction.

The attacker is described as a black male in his early 30s. He is between 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall. He has a thin build with medium-length black hair in corn rows and a short goatee.
