DENVER - The driver of a car who hit and killed a woman near the Denver Country Club has been formally charged by the Denver District Attorney.
Jesus Carreno, 23, has been charged with one count of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular homicide - reckless driving.
Charges allege that on the evening of Aug. 31, Carreno was driving eastbound on Speer Boulevard when he hit and killed 60-year-old Colleen O'Connor on the corner of East 1st Avenue and Downing Street. According to the probable cause statement, alcohol appeared to be a factor in the incident.
O'Connor was a reporter for The Denver Post. The newspaper says she had worked there since 2004.
Carreno has been released from custody on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court for a second advisement Oct. 6.
