Malcom Farley's art exhibit to benefit Metro State

KUSA - Denver sports/celebrity artist Malcolm Farley is returning to the Mile High City with a 100-painting retrospective show starting Nov. 10 at the Denver Pavilions.

Malcolm, a Metropolitan State College graduate, will donate a portion of proceeds from the sales of his paintings and merchandise during the show to the Metro State Scholarship fund.

I'm really proud of Metro State for what they've done for kids all through the time and I think as I look back through my time there being right here in the heart of the city with the whole city as your classroom it's been special," Farley said. "As I go through life I realize the benefit of all the great people [whose lives] I was a part of. So it's kind of my way of giving back.

Farley says he sat down with officials at the college and discussed different fundraising options. What they came up with seems to be setting a record in the art world.

"...as far as I know, even according to art world news, there's never been a 100 piece retrospective by one artist. So we're setting records here," he said.

Malcom visited the 9NEWS Studios for the latest 6:20 Sidebar and showed Susie Wargin some of his favorite sports pieces.

Farley has been fortunate to sit with some of the great athletes in the country.

"They all have a story and that's the really cool thing. It's been a blessing to get to know these guys and gals and learn what they're really like behind the scenes, what their kids are like and that sort of thing," he explained.

"Malcolm Farley: A Visual Retrospective of a Modern Day Master" will include sports figures, entertainers and other celebrities he's painted. The show will take place in the space once occupied by Wolfgang Puck on second level of Denver Pavilions.

Farley's exhibit will be run daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Nov. 10-17. In addition to the 10,000 square foot gallery, there will be an onsite store where posters, prints, canvas reproductions, greeting cards and a line of apparel can be purchased, benefiting Metro State College.
