DENVER - In the midst of budget cuts, Denver Public Schools wants to increase funding for students learning English and for middle schools to have more class time.

Overall, DPS is expecting $10 million less in per-pupil funding going into next year.

Administrators say due to cuts at the central office, and dipping into reserves, the district can actually increase funds for English-language learners by $8.5 million.

Middle schools seeking an extended day would receive an additional $2.5 million.

The school board will vote on budget in the spring.
