CSU, CU, DU count donations, and they add up to a lot

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Colorado State University and the University of Colorado are longtime rivals on the football field, but last year was one for the record books for both schools.

CSU on Thursday announced it raised a record $143.3 million through private donors during the fiscal year that ended June 30. The amount tops the previous record, which was set the previous year, by almost $31 million.

CU last week announced its own record-breaking amount from private donors, raising $298.4 million in the just-ended fiscal year.

CSU said it received donations from 33,716 people. The university also reported 10 percent of its graduates gave money, which is the highest alumni participation in more than a decade.

Meanwhile, the University of Denver on Thursday also announced the end of an eight-year effort called ASCEND: The Campaign for the University of Denver. Donations came from more than 47,000 people and amounted to almost $490 million.
