DENVER - It was intended as an inside joke by some teachers and staff at a Denver elementary school. Now, the principal is apologizing.
"The Men of Castro" calendar includes 12 pictures of male staff members, including the school principal, inside the school building in various poses.
A community member with ties to Castro Elementary School called 9NEWS and provided a copy of the calendar. Denver Public Schools spokesman Mike Vaughn said a complaint was filed regarding the calendar.
Principal Robert Villarreal released the following statement after a staff meeting at the school Friday:
The teachers involved in creating the calendar intended it to be a light- hearted, end-of-year activity among a small group of staff. Ten copies were printed, and they were only intended for the staff who participated in making the calendar. It was paid for and created by one of the teachers on his own time; no school funds were used. Still, it does not reflect well on the school, and I am sorry that this happened.
