Metropolitan State University of Denver President Stephen Jordan announced Thursday that he will retire from the position effective June 30, 2017.
Jordan, president of MSU Denver since 2005, said he and wife, Ruthie, put "considerable thought" into the decision.
"I think part of it is that when you've made a lot of changes, after a while, it's time to take a step back to let someone else come in with a new vision and take the university to the next step," said Jordan in an interview with the Denver Business Journal. "It's a little sad, but I think it's a good time."
The board of trustees has already begun a national search for a replacement.
