University graduating historic class

DENVER - Graduating students at Metropolitan State University of Denver have an extra reason to be proud when they receive their degrees. They'll be part of the largest and most diverse class that the university has ever graduated.

On Sunday 1,954 students will receive their bachelors degrees. 28% of those graduates will be students of color. The largest of that minority group is Latino students with 331 graduates.

The students are not only diverse in regards to their races, they are also diverse in their ages. The graduating students range from 19-years-old, to 71-years-old.

The 1,954 students who are graduating from MSU beat the school record last year of 1,860 spring graduates. One hundred thirty six of this year's graduates have earned master's degrees. Seventy six of the graduates are veterans.

The record-setting graduation happens at a time when college enrollment rates continue to decline nationwide. According to one study though the decline is happening at a slower rate than in years past. This spring overall college enrollment decreased 0.8% from the previous spring. That's the smallest decrease since spring of 2012.
