Fatal motorcycle crash closes I-70

DENVER – A fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a semi truck closed eastbound Interstate 70 at Airport Boulevard, just west of Tower Road, for several hours Monday.

The incident happened at 11:18 a.m. Aurora police say two men on motorcycles were attempting to pass a semi-truck heading eastbound on I-70 when they entered a construction zone that narrowed from two lanes into one.

Police say during this maneuver, the handlebars of the motorcycles touched, causing one motorcycle to veer to the left where it struck two orange construction zone barrels.

The rider lost control of his bike and was thrown under the rear trailer wheels of the semi-tractor trailer. He died at the scene. The other motorcycle driver and the truck driver were uninjured.

Police believe excessive speed may have been a contributing factor to the crash. The motorcyclists both had helmets strapped to their bikes but were not wearing them.

The Adams and Broomfield County Coroner's Office identified the deceased victim as 20-year-old Logan Alan Keller.

According to the Aurora Police Department Traffic Section, no charges will be filed because it appeared Keller was at fault.
