Fatal shooting near Durango allegedly part of pot robbery

DURANGO (AP) - Court documents say a shooting death near Durango last month was part of a marijuana robbery.

The Durango Herald reports that three people from Texas were charged on Friday with first-degree murder in the shooting of 34-year-old David Gaytan. They were also charged with felony robbery, menacing and tampering with physical evidence.

According to arrest warrants unsealed Friday, a handgun was used in the shooting at the Lightner Creek Mobile Home Park three miles west of Durango on May 14.

It's the third shooting death involving marijuana in the last three years in La Plata County.
