KUSA - Gratitude demands reflection. It requires us to remember through our minds and our hearts.

Joshua’s heart is stronger than ever before and he’s eager to share his message of gratitude and encouragement with other kids.

Before Joshua had heart surgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado, he created a drawing for a T-shirt design. He titled it “Brave Conquers Fear.”

At the time he had no idea he would really need to tap into that belief when he went to the hospital for surgery.

Joshua’s family -- his mom Cheryl Preheim and dad Mark and siblings Duke and Ella -- wore the shirt along with his nurses and doctors. They found that message more comforting a few weeks later when Joshua’s baby brother Joseph was born at Children’s and was treated for a kidney problem.

Now, they are spreading the family motto far beyond their circle of family and friends.

Recently, Joshua returned to the hospital where all patients were given the chance to pick up a shirt. He met boys and girls exactly his age, and younger and older too. They share a connection others cannot fully understand.
