KUSA - Holiday cooking can come with some hazards.
'Tis the season to get burned by grease or from touching too hot handles of pans and dishes.
According to Jill Wisotzke, a burn quality manager at Swedish Medical Center, if you do burn yourself and you're concerned about it, the best plan is to get checked out.
"If you're questioning it, definitely seek some medical attention," Wisotzke said. "Any burns you have to the hands, the feet or the face, you definitely want to seek some attention because it could affect the range of motion in those joints."
Wisotzke says turkey fryers are to blame for a lot of burns. If you do get burned, but don't think it's that bad, it's good to know there is a chance it could get worse over time.
"It may not look dangerous at first, but it can progress over 12 to 24 hours and the next day it could look like a completely different wound," Wisotzke said. "It could have caused more damage under the skin that would require skin grafting and some further surgeries."
She suggests if you do get burned, don't put cold water on it because it can actually make it worse.
