9Health Fair: Free screenings offered

KUSA - Many physicians send their patients to 9Health Fair for blood work. It costs $30 for a full analysis. Your insurance may not cover the doctor's office to test for certain items because it's not in your family medical history. A 9Health Fair comprehensive blood test could help catch a health problem before you start showing symptoms, and it could help you save money down the road.

9Health Fair blood screenings test for everything at an affordable cost, even if you don't have insurance. Your blood work is tested by the same lab that many physicians use. It's best to go over your results with your doctor.

Outside of the blood screenings, 9Health Fair offers many other screenings for free or at a low cost. The screenings at each site are different because medical professionals are volunteering their time. Screenings range from the standard blood chemistry screening (cost: $30) to cancer screenings (PSA, colon, oral, cervical, prostate/testicular, skin, and more) to vision and eye health.

You might not think about a Vitamin D screening at the doctor's office, but you should consider getting it done. Vitamin D largely helps you maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. That helps you have strong bones, and decreased chance for osteoporosis, high blood pressure, cancer and other diseases. 75% of people don't have enough Vitamin D. You can get Vitamin D through exposure to direct sunlight and some foods, like certain breakfast cereals, orange juices, yogurts and soy beverages. A screening is available at 9Health Fair for $40.

Lung function is another screening available at some locations. It will help determine if you have breathing issues, like asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and pulmonary fibrosis. The screening measures the volume and flow of air you inhale and exhale. This screening is free.
