LEADVILLE - The mountain town of Leadville has gone from nearly losing their only hospital, to now getting a brand new medical facility.
Saint Vincent Hospital has been in the same building since the 1950s and has operated in Leadville for more than 130 years.
Recently, it nearly closed its doors due to a lack of funds for operating costs in the old building.
A mill levy passed a year ago kept the doors open, and now a partnership with Centura Health will mean a new smaller hospital will be built right next to the current hospital, using a U.S. Department of Agriculture loan of about $11 million.
Groundbreaking for the new medical facility is set for April.
Construction is expected to be finished a year later.
The town of Leadville is trying to figure out what to do with the old hospital building.
