Wife of Aurora fire chief investigated for hit-and-run

AURORA – The wife of Aurora's fire chief is facing felony hit-and-run charges in connection to a crash that injured a man and two children Wednesday night.

Adriene Garcia is the wife the Aurora Fire Chief Mike Garcia. She is accused of rear-ending a car at East Yale Avenue and South Peoria Street and then taking off. It happened around 10:23 p.m. Wednesday.

One adult and two children were hospitalized. One of the children had serious injuries but was expected to live.

An attorney for Garcia, Danny Foster, says she was a victim of an assault ten years ago, and as a result, suffered a traumatic brain injury. Foster says Garcia's injury has been aggravated over the years by a few auto accidents she has been in.

The family is investigating to see Garcia's brain injury had anything to do with the hit-and-run crash. Foster says Garcia went to her husband after the accident. He then called 911.

The Garcia family says their thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family

Alcohol and speed are not suspected as factors in the crash. The case remains under investigation.
