DENVER - The Metro State College student accused of stealing weapons from a Boulder County Sheriff's deputy is also suspected of befriending other law enforcement officers and members of the military so he could steal police and military equipment, 9Wants to Know has learned.
An arrest affidavit indicates 24-year-old Nicholas McKibben is suspected of stealing an assault rifle and a vest from the home of a deputy's home in Westminster in 2010.
He was friends with that deputy and with two other men - also with police and law enforcement officers whose homes were burglarized.
All were befriended by McKibben first.
The case that led to his arrest was the burglary in December of a deputy's house in Superior.
Investigators say McKibben was due to arrive at a party with the deputy that day. McKibben came late with an excuse and investigators say that's when he was robbing the deputy's house of handguns, an assault rifle, a Taser.
9Wants to Know has learned that one of the burglaries happened after a friend was killed in a motorcycle crash. The man's home was burglarized during his funeral and his family says McKibben was the only other person with a key.
McKibben is currently only facings in connection with the burglary in Superior.
