3 burned in Cherry Creek Reservoir boat explosion

CHERRY CREEK RESERVOIR - Three people suffered first and second-degree burns after an explosion rocked the boat they were on.

South Metro Fire Rescue responded to reports of an explosion at the Cherry Creek Reservoir Marina just after 11 a.m. Sunday.

The victims were transported to a local hospital. They have not yet been identified.

The explosion caused little damage to the boat and any other boats and structures in the area.

Fire officials say the boat was not on fire when crews arrived.

They say the fire may have been related to fuel on the boat, but the official cause is still under investigation.

It is not known if the boat was leaking gas.

The investigation is ongoing, and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs are being considered a factor in the explosion.
