SWA to add nonstop service between Denver and Dallas

DENVER - If you're a Southwest Airlines fan - the carrier will add nonstop flights between Dallas Love Field - and 15 cities - including Denver.

It all starts in October. It comes on the heels of what some call an antiquated, restricted federal regulations (The Wright Amendment) that prohibited the airline from offering nonstop flights to states that did not touch the Texas border.

"To be able to connect to thriving metropolitan areas like Denver and Dallas in a new way, with nonstop service, with bags fly free, with no change fees and with the value of our on time performance and our amazing customer service - it really is a game changer for consumers," Southwest Airlines spokesperson Brad Hawkins said.

The increased competition is expected to have an impact on prices.

"For Denver consumers that means a lot of new options to get to and from [Dallas] and fares will be going down," Hawkins said.

Southwest Airlines allows passengers to check their first two bags for free. The airline also does not charger travelers for itinerary changes.

The specific flight schedules between Denver and Dallas will be announced in May. The flights will begin on Oct. 13, 2014.

On Oct. 13, 2014 nonstop service from Dallas Love Field to the following cities begins:

Baltimore/Washington (BWI)

Las Vegas

Chicago Midway

On Nov. 2, 2014 nonstop service from Dallas Love Field to the following cities begins:

Washington, D.C. (Reagan National)

Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood

Los Angeles (LAX)

New York (LaGuardia)
