Blinky closes antique shop; goods to be auctioned
|
VIEW SLIDESHOW ![]() Blinky says it's not the items, but the people that came through his store that he will miss the most. Russell Scott is his real name. But Coloradans and people across the country know him best as Blinky the Clown. He dressed as a clown and starred in a television program called Blinky's Fun Club from 1965 to 1998. Tens of thousands of people grew up watching him. Besides entertaining people, Scott also has a passion for antiques and collectible items. His store on South Broadway and Iowa Avenue has been a fixture for 22 years. If you've ever been in there you know it took special skill just to pack so much into such a small space. The 87-year-old says his health is good, but felt it was time to close the store, especially given the nation's economy. He says he plans to keep himself busy with other things, including painting birdhouses. The merchandise from Blinky's Antique and Collectibles is set to be auctioned off at Corbett's Auction House on Sunday, Nov. 23 , starting at 11 a.m. It's located at 4921 S. Santa Fe Drive in Littleton. The phone number is: 303-794-3532. The Web site is: www.corbettsauctionhouse.com. There will be a preview on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and also from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. the day of the auction. Any fans who would like to send Scott a card, or buy one of his birdhouses, can do so at: Steve's Snappin' Dogs, at 3525 E. Colfax Avenue in Denver, or e-mail: slandbinc@msn.com.
