ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A Denali National Park spokesperson says they are still holding out hope of finding missing climber Gerald Myers and will continue searching on Monday.

On Sunday, aerial searches continued looking for the Centennial man missing on a solo climb on Alaska's Mount McKinley.

Denali National Park spokeswoman Maureen McLaughlin said two U.S. Army teams in Chinook helicopters, one Denali rescue helicopter, and climbers searched Sunday, but didn't find 41-year-old Myers.

McLaughlin says the specialized Chinook helicopters can not only fly to high altitude, they can also hover, providing a better view of the search areas.

Rescue workers have been searching for Myers since Thursday.

He was last seen Wednesday as he climbed the ridge approaching McKinley's 20,320-foot summit, leaving his climbing partners at their 14,000-foot camp on Tuesday.

"He left them a note about 4:30 a.m. that said he was going to go up and try and summit if he could and he would catch up with them later," John Leonard with the Denali National Park Service said.

Myers was carrying skis with him, but little survival gear.

A coworker said Myers trained extensively.

"His skill level in just about everything is unbelievable. He trains, he studies, he does research. He's really a spectacular person," Marc Garfinkle said.

Myers' girlfriend, Marcia McCarroll, told 9NEWS, "His utmost priority is always safety and he was completely prepared for what Mt. McKinley was willing to dish out. Mountaineering is his ultimate passion and I'm confident he has all the skills to pull through this."
