Political meeting a first for LGBT community

DENVER - Organizers say it's the first meeting of its kind in the country, a town hall to discuss lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues.

Representative Jared Polis hosted the event Saturday night. The Democrat from Boulder said the goal was to update people on the equality agenda from Washington.

"It's important for people here in Colorado to hear an update about what's going on in Washington," Polis (D-Colo.) said. "I know there are a lot of folks from the LGBT community that have been frustrated with the pace of progress. President Obama promised a lot during the campaign, it's been a little bit slow to deliver that so I'm here to talk about what the legislative process looks like, where the different bills are and hear from people about their priorities about what they'd like to see Washington do."

Polis is the first man to campaign for a first term in Congress being openly gay -- and win.

He's held more than 20 other townhall meetings to talk about healthcare reform.
