The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says they received a call requesting a welfare check on an individual who lives on Hyacinth Street in the West Ridge neighborhood of Highlands Ranch at 8:46 p.m. Wednesday.

When deputies arrived the man barricaded himself in his house and threatened them. The sheriff's office says the man had a gun and refused to come out of his house.

The sheriff's office sent a message to about 25 homes in the area, warning residents to stay inside and avoid windows during the standoff.

The man finally surrendered at 12:30 a.m. Thursday and was taken into custody by deputies. A spokesperson with the sheriff's office wouldn't release further information about the suspect or what charges, if any, the man will face.
