ARAPAHOE COUNTY - 'Tis the season - for fraud. The Arapahoe County District Attorney says this is the time of year when they get more calls about Medicare scams, since open enrollment for Medicare D begins soon.

There are also the many holiday scams that crop up.

Arapahoe County District Attorney Carol Chambers says you should never give out personal information to someone who calls you on the phone.

She also warns about the very popular fake check scams.

"If you get that kind of a request in any form, to accept a check even if it looks very valid, very official - they're very clever about how they make checks now and the deal is: if you keep the check, deposit it to your account and then send money on to them or somebody else, that's a scam. Just across the board, that's a scam," Chambers said.

If you have questions about whether an offer is legitimate, before you give out any information or money, you should call your local district attorney's office to check to see if it's a fraud.
