BRIGHTON - The Brighton 27J school board voted Tuesday night for the district to take over a sex-scandal-plagued charter school that is again in the news for possible sexual wrongdoing by a teacher.

Brighton police are investigating a Brighton Collegiate High School teacher who was fired by the school upon allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student.

The teacher's name has not been released, and the investigation, which began Oct. 30, is expected to be completed within a week, according to police spokesman John Bradley.

The district will assume temporary management of Brighton Collegiate, effective immediately, according to Allison Lockwood, spokeswoman for the district. The length of the management is undefined, she said.

The takeover of the school occurred because district officials were concerned about a lack of access to documents and were not confident of the safety of the students at the school, she said.

"We tried to investigate the most recent issue, and they denied access," Brighton 27J Superintendent Rod Blunck said before the meeting.

The school has had a series of teacher/student sex-related scandals. Click here to read more about that.
