DENVER - The weather cooperated with the Downtown Denver Partnership for the annual Light the Lights celebration, even if the lights didn't.

An estimated 25,000 people came out to enjoy the weather, music and beautiful lights in front of Denver's City and County building Friday night.

Then came the moment for Mayor John Hickenlooper's son to hit the switch. The lights came on and the music picked up.

But then suddenly the building went dark and the lights flickered out.

No one is sure what caused the lights to go out, but once the mayor flipped the switch to the "off" position the lights came back on.

Friday's event launches a series of events marking the holiday season in downtown Denver.

Next Friday and Saturday 9NEWS is bringing you the Parade of Lights. 9NEWS will broadcast the parade Friday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. on 9NEWS. You can also watch the parade Saturday night at 6 p.m. (Saturday's parade will not be on television.)
