WASHINGTON (AP) - Senator Ken Salazar and 16 other senators expressed concerns about soldiers' body armor in a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

The senators said they have "grave concerns" that the 20,000 additional troops headed to Iraq under President Bush's planned escalation will not have adequate body armor.

They say an internal investigation last month found some troops still do not have body armor, up-armored vehicles and other equipment.

The senators want to know what is being done to make sure all the troops have the necessary equipment.

Defense Department spokesman Stewart Upton says many of the issues already are resolved.
