Report: Colorado College players punished for blackface
|
COLORADO SPRINGS (AP) - Four Colorado College hockey players have been suspended from the team for two weeks after appearing in blackface at a golf outing - according to The Gazette newspaper in Colorado Springs. ![]() In a written statement, college President Richard Celeste said some students had "engaged in inappropriate and offensive behavior." He did not identify them or provide any details of the behavior. The Gazette did not identify its source. College spokeswoman Jane Turnis told The Associated Press today that she could not comment on the specifics of the case, citing privacy laws. Coach Scott Owens declined comment. The Gazette reports that groups of players chose television shows to represent at the golf outing, and the four who were suspended chose "Family Matters" - which featured a black family. It's not clear if the suspensions have been completed. Colorado College has played two games this year, and has games set for Friday and Saturday at home against Minnesota.
