CSU professor with autism honored

FORT COLLINS – A Colorado State University professor with autism was honored earlier this week for her contributions to the disabled community.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said Dr. Temple Grandin is one of the most accomplished and well-known adults with autism in the world.

She did not talk until she was 3-and-a-half years old. Instead she communicated her frustration by screaming, peeping and humming.

In 1950, she was labeled autistic and her parents were told she should be institutionalized. Now she is a prominent speaker and author on the subject of autism.

She is an associate professor at CSU.
