Young man accused of sexually assaulting 82-year-old woman in elevator

GRAND JUNCTION (AP) - A 21-year-old man has told a judge he was intoxicated at the time of an alleged sexual assault inside an elevator at an apartment building.

Tyler Christensen made the statement to Mesa County Judge Craig Henderson Monday during a court appearance via video hookup from the Mesa County Jail.

Christensen was advised he could face charges of felony first-degree burglary, sexual assault on an at-risk adult, and misdemeanor charges of unlawful sexual contact and third-degree assault.

He's accused of attacking an 82-year-old woman inside an elevator at the Ratekin Tower on Sunday.

The woman says Christensen put his hand over her mouth, tried to pull her pants down and groped her.

Christensen is being held on $60,000 bond.
