KUSA - A lot of parents have big dreams that their child will be a star, but there is a right way and a wrong of doing it.
Karen Lincoln, owner of Marbles Kids Management says to be careful of modeling or acting coach ads that sound too good to be true.
"We get the call [from parents that say] they have spent $2,000 to 10,000 to get this coaching and, all along, the parents thought they were having representation when they were not," Lincoln said. "There are five agencies in town and most of us have been here a very long time, and those are the people that you want to represent [your child]."
Marbles Kids Management, which is located at 240 Josephine St., has been around for 27 years and has had their share of successful clients.
"Our most notable is Zachery Ty Bryan [the oldest son on the TV show Home Improvement]." Lincoln said. "He started as a 3-year-old. We do have all of his pictures and a lot of samples of his work through the years before he became a star, and then we have some of his work actually up on the walls. We've also had George Bush's niece. She went on to New York as a fashion model. I currently have several talent in L.A. One just taped for Nickelodeon on Friday. She also did a pilot voice over for an animated kid's pilot."
Lincoln says that going to L.A. or New York are not the only options for children that want to act or model.
Denver's market, although different, can offer options too.
"Eighty percent of our work in the Denver market is going to be commercial work," Lincoln said. "So the types of clients that are coming to us are ad agencies, department stores, casting companies, catalog houses, manufacturers of clothing lines, producers, directors and project managers."
Lincoln says that even though acting or modeling may be fun it is still a business and kids should be coached in the areas they want to work.
